Armed roommate shoots one of two home invaders. Why we won’t negotiate or compromise the U.S. Second Amendment. Anyone suggesting it or advocating for it belongs in Guantanamo prison.
“She was collected enough to keep us all from getting hurt,” the woman’s roommate said. “You know that’s really what I’m thankful for, is that not everybody is ready to jump under stress.”
Over the last few years I’ve been looking for a more suitable headlamp for my helmets. The headlamps sold for hiking or other activities aren’t durable enough nor do they have the safety features I wanted. I finally found a light that would meet all my needs.
The headlamp I chose is the Dicata Nightstick XPP-5462RX. The light is designed to be worn on a firefighting helmet or hardhat. It has a low profile so that it can be used with shield equipped helmets so that it won’t interfere with the shield. I may want to change the light from my Phenix First Due helmet over to a firefighting helmet with a shield if the situation calls for it and not worry whether I’ll have an issue.
From product instructions
It is intrinsically safe in various hazardous environments reducing the risk of a spark causing an explosion. The intrinsically safe rating calls for the use of three Energizer AA batteries E91 or EN91 only. According to the manual those are the only batteries it has been tested with. The light also meets NFPA-1971-8.6(2013). The light is waterproof down to 1 meter. It also has a drop rating of 2 meters.
The headlamp is held onto the helmet by a heavy duty rubber strap. The strap has two clips that hold the power cord in place. It feels like it will last for several years if not damaged during use. The battery pack and lamp housing are made from glass filled nylon polymer and appear the be very durable. The company says it comes in two colors green which looks lime-yellow to me and red which looks very much orange on my helmet.
Lamp in tilted position
The lamp is connected to a stainless steel frame with an adjustable hinge. The angle of the light can be changed if desired. I found that setting the light to the most advantageous viewing angle then tightening the bolt/nut down so it won’t move works best for me. Before I did this whenever I turned on the light it would move back to the original position so that I always had to readjust after changing the settings.
Light with spot turned on high power
The light uses Cree L.E.D.’s that are rated to a 50,000+ hour lifespan. The spot light is on the users right with the flood on the left. There is a separate control button for each light. The control button sequence for both lights is first press high power, second push low power and third push light off. Both lights can be on at the same time in the high or low power setting.
The spot light in high power is 275 lumens with a run time of 6 hours 45 minutes reaching 120 meters. Low power is 100 lumens with a run time of 25 hours reaching 75 meters. The flood light in high power is 250 lumens with a run time of 7 hours. In low power 100 lumens with a run time of 25 hours. When the spot and flood lights operate simultaneously they put out 310 lumens with a run time of 6 hours reaching 86 meters.
Rear facing green “follow me” light
The battery pack also has rear facing “follow me” light. The green L.E.D. light is very bright and easy to see. The control button on the housing allows the user to turn the light to steady on with the first push. The second push will make the light flash at regular intervals and the third push will turn the light off.
Replacement strap
In the future more of these headlamps will be added to the other helmets used for rescue activities. I also plan on having spare straps on hand if we need them. After using this light I’m very happy with the performance. Check out the video if you want to see how the light works. -13
Want to promote an anti civil rights agenda by disarming citizens and make people unnaturally fear firearms? This is the end result. Mass hysteria by shoppers because of a loud noise leads to people getting trampled by the crowd. “Everybody was running. Some people — an elderly man — got trampled over because it was hectic.” What did the police find while investigating a loud noise? “We have not recovered any shell casings, no rounds of ammunition, anything along those lines,” Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said. UPDATE: 15OCT2019 Mall chaos caused by single balloon popping, police report delayed reaction. All I have to add is this is why people need to be educated about firearms. Running in terror from a popping balloon sound. -13
I’ve been wanting to cover this issue since I found out about it. The purpose of witting this is to call attention to the issue and to put pressure on Costco and all businesses to stop this practice of putting profit over life safety. Let me be clear from the start, I fully support the second amendment, unrestricted. I have been carrying a self defense firearm since 1982 and have no plans to stop no matter how emotional it may make irrational people.

The shooting that happened in Corona California sometime in June of 2019 is a perfect example of exactly how shopping at a Costco in could get you killed. I have this opinion based on experience as a firefighter and lessons learned by the deaths of others. There’s a reason emergency responder’s say “every second counts”. They do, I’ll use two videos as an example.
First I’ll use the video that was hosted by at the time Indiana Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell. In the video the sheriff is demonstrating how ridiculous magazine bans are. We can see how fast an inexperienced individual can accurately put rounds on target. 20 rounds with an AR-15 was 14.79 seconds and with a Mini-14 it took 12.03 seconds. Both of those fall within the 15 seconds before the door could be opened. I’d call that life threatening in the event of an active shooter.
Also at issue is whether the system will function as designed. We all experience modern product malfunctions when they don’t perform as designed. In California an earthquake could possibly disable the system and no one would know until an emergency. Same thing if there was an explosion.

So called experts think delayed exits are okay for you and me. They justify them in terms of profit for them and the company that purchases them. In my opinion those companies and those who run them have questionable ethics at best. They certainly do not have your safety in mind, only profit. Read the quotes in the photo above for proof. Shame also falls on fire officials that approve this kind of thing, they do not belong in that job. Says me!
Is shopping at Costco a gamble with ones life? Sure seems like it to me based on the evidence. Will I shop there? Yes, however, I always go armed and my plan if escape is necessary is to activate the fire alarm before trying to open the exit doors since that is supposed to deactivate the delay. The real solution is to send a message to Costco that if they don’t stop this practice we will have a customer revolt. According to Costco’s 2018 annual report their biggest fear is loosing customers in mass. The report states it would affect the company drastically. Think you’re not in danger? Better go back and review the videos. If you read this I’d like to know what you think. Post your thoughts in the comments section. -13
NAAGA, the National African American Gun Association, ever heard of it? I hadn’t until a saw this in the local news. Click the link below for more good news.
More good news for Florida, approved teachers can now carry firearms at school. Sure hope they don’t act like the Coward of Broward did when it was his time to prove himself. Click the link for the details.
Starting another new feature on my blog titled “Good People With Firearms”. It will feature individuals that prove why we must not compromise our Second Amendment rights. Evidence will be gathered most likely when I see it in the local news so I don’t expect this to be a regular blog post.
19/SEPT/2019, Miami, FL. Woman stops robbery in progress. Local news is reporting a legally armed female patron of Popeye’s used her firearm to stop a robbery in progress. Footage shows a person on the ground with what appears to be a male standing over the victim removing items from the victims pockets when the Popeye’s female patron points her firearm at the robber then fires. The good Samaritan identified only as Eula states she had to do it to save the victim when she fired into the air to repel the robber that was later detained by police. Go check out the link for more.
Unconditional freedom, no compromises, no negotiations. -13
This is why firearm owners will not compromise or negotiate second amendment rights in any way whatsoever. The video below says it all no more commentary necessary. -13
Once again another DF-LCS (Defensor Fortis Load Carrying System) modification. This time it’s for the elastic that connects the rear section to the two front sections. After using the DF-LCS I was unhappy with the unused space created by the elastic connection and wanted a solution. I had a surplus fighting load carrier (FLC) on hand when it dawned on me to break it down into individual components and reuse the parts to fill the space.
Elastic connector between front and rear DF-LCS sections.
The PALS (pouch attachment ladder system) panels on the FLC would be perfect with little modification necessary. Once they were removed from the rest of the assembly it would be easy to cut the parts to size, sew on the recycled edge binding, then sew the free ends together. This would allow them to slip over the elastic connector then be laced to the front and rear section of PALS webbing with military spec paracord.
PALS filler panel over elastic connector, laced onto front and rear sections.
The idea works well for the ALICE M-16 pouches I converted to MOLLE. So far those have performed as expected when the ALICE magazine pouches are fully loaded with gear. I did have to tighten the lace up to eliminate the slight sagging issue.
Front view ALICE magazine pouch attached to PALS panel.
Rear view of ALICE magazine pouch and PALS panel on a DF-LCS.
I don’t have a lot of detail here because it’s in the video. The video moves from FLC disassembly, to layout, then sewing and finally how to make it work with the LCS. Video below. -13
Time for some gear updates. After switching from my old favorite ALICE LBE to MOLLE DF-LCS I experienced a couple of issues. When using the LCS it would inch it’s way over my pants belt and push down creating discomfort. I also noticed when in a sitting, crawling or in a prone position the rig would tend to climb toward my chest. After thinking of a solution the only one I could think of was to attach straps that would keep the LCS from moving away from my waistline.
Right segment of DF-LCS before adding belt keepers.
The idea came from my experience wearing a duty belt with belt keepers that were designed to hold the duty belt in line with my pants belt. With this in mind I measured the area I wanted to place the keepers, doubled the length then added a inch and a half. The extra length would give my fingers a place to work the snaps I intended to use. Once I had the dimensions for the strap I cut six lengths of poly webbing, folded them in half and sewed them so the two halves would work as one.
Right segment of LCS after belt keeper straps were added.
After sewing the keeper straps together they were sewn onto the three segments of the LCS. Next the holes were punched then the snaps were added. It was an easy project taking no more than 45-60 minutes to complete. After testing the idea seems to work well to prevent the LCS from moving around and causing me trouble. The LCS rig still has some movement/flexibility however it won’t move away from my waistline. I made a short video, the link is below.
I also modified what was labeled as a MOLLE flashlight holster to meet PALS specifications so I could attach it to my quick response belt. The holster had the vertical snap strap but did not have the ladder webbing. To fix this issue I removed the belt loop strap, opened the sewn seam to join the holster, added the new ladder section, then sewed the piece back together. Time spent was about a half hour. I made a how-I-did-it video the link its below. -13
I usually don’t get political here but sometimes it’s necessary. People calling for “gun control” remind me of the hysteria of World War 2 and Hitler fanatics. First it was books then it was weapons. The Nazis disarmed the Jews for a reason, fear of self defense. If one was educated/trained one would not be so fearful. A recent example is the motorcycle backfire in New York where everyone are subjects of the state with no self defense capabilities so they ran like cockroaches when the lights turn on. Shame on them for letting their constitutional rights being violated by politicians.
Giving up second amendment rights will not make anyone safer, it won’t. It will place one in danger from those who intend to do harm. If people had the ability to defend themselves they wouldn’t need to run like sheep from wolfs. A few Jewish people I met in the 1980’s with number tattoos were very clear why gun registration and confiscation will always lead to trouble.
I don’t believe everyone should be armed, my one bullet video proves that. I do believe that carrying a firearm since 1982 has made me and those around me safer. I’m a person who runs toward danger, not away. Individuals that are frighted of firearms belong in a therapy session to overcome the phobia or in a mental ward safe away from the rest of us who understand our responsibilities as human beings. My safe space is created by my armed presence and nothing else.
It’s the reason the founding fathers wrote the second amendment, it didn’t have anything to do with hunting game. When it comes to freedom there are no compromises nor negotiations, none. Could anti civil rights fear mongering politicians be driving us into another civil war? If so there is only one place for them. -13
